YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, WE HAVE ANSWERS…

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and is a popular way for consumers to buy directly from local small-scale farmers.  The goal of a CSA is to connect consumers with local producers and to help support small scale agriculture.  How it works: KR Farms offers a certain number of subscriptions to the public.  Consumers interested in helping support our farm can subscribe.  In return, you receive a box of fresh produce or a beautiful bouquet of seasonal blooms either weekly or biweekly throughout the farming season.

This arrangement creates several rewards both for you and for KR Farms. While you get access to ultra-fresh local food and beautiful blooms, we are rewarded in knowing that our products are being enjoyed and shared with members of our community.  By opting to participate in our CSA prior to the season, you are ensuring that the infrastructure of our farm is setup for success for the season.  Your support helps to ensure our continued development and growth in supplying the very best produce and blooms nature has to offer.

When does my CSA start?

We offer a variety of CSA options.  See details in each CSA for timing specific to your subscription.  Please note that we cannot control Mother Nature, and that she decides when she is good and ready to help us get to work.  This means our CSA start dates may be subject to change dependent on seasonal weather conditions.  We will notify you via email a week before your CSA gets going.  Additionally, subscribers will receive a monthly newsletter throughout the season!

How do I pay for my CSA?

It’s easy, see our CSA options at our Shop.  If you need any help, or have any questions, feel free to Contact Us.

Can I customize my CSA?

In short, yes! We do set a standard bi-weekly produce box based on what is in season, but we do offer a “market-style” option.  Rather than picking up your CSA at a designated location or having it delivered, you can visit our farm and load your own boxes with some degree of personal choice.  The farm is open on Sunday afternoons for CSA pickups.

For an additional fee you can add extra items to your CSA (e.g. extra beets).  We do ask that add on items be made by noon the Sunday of your delivery/pick-up week.  This enables us to plan out harvest schedules, delivery routes and ensure we can wash and pack all products in time.

Where can I pick-up my CSA?

During check-out you will be provided with a list of our CSA pick-up locations.  Currently, you can pick-up at our farm located in East Bakersfield and beginning in Spring at the Haggin Oaks Farmers Market on Sunday’s at 880 Ming Avenue from 9 AM to 2 PM.

Do you deliver?

We deliver!  We are in East Bakersfield and charge a $4.50 delivery fee for all individual home and office deliveries.  By charging a delivery fee we can provide transparent pricing on our produce. Based on the signups that we receive, we will plan delivery routes to accommodate as many members as possible. Addresses that are significantly outside our delivery route may be ineligible for home delivery.

We also offer curbside pick-up at our farm or market-style CSA pick-up at the farm on Sunday evenings.  We do ask that farm visitors wear masks and maintain social distancing if visiting the farm.

In the unlikely event that we are unable to deliver your box, a refund will be given for the missed week.

What if I can’t pick-up my CSA?

We get it, things come up and life happens. Our CSA is non-refundable as our items are perishable.  However, you can have someone else pick-up your CSA on your behalf. Or, you can gift your produce box or bouquet to someone else. Either way, we just ask that you contact us via email to let us know if you will not be able to pick-up, and who will be the lucky recipient of farm goodies.

Do you re-use your containers?

Yes! In some cases, our produce may come in bags rather than boxes.  We don’t repurpose our bags, however, we love to re-use our boxes to reduce our ecological fingerprint whenever possible. We re-use our boxes, jam/honey jars, and flower containers.  Returning boxes to a pickup location emptied is the best way to see that they get sanitized and reused.

What if I want a refund?

Unfortunately, we are unable to refund our CSA subscriptions.  Our CSA is the primary means to supporting our farm and our items are perishable. As such, we do not issue refunds. However, if you are unhappy with your subscription, we welcome you to Contact Us so that we can work to make things right.
